An exceptional jewel from the George period (1714-1837), exquisitely handcrafted in high-karat gold prior to the standardization of gold alloys, when variable assays were characteristic of aristocratic commissions. The brooch takes the form of a mythological beast with the head of an eagle and the body of a serpent, richly decorated with 26 natural seed pearls forming the beak, 14 turquoise cabochons set as eyebrows, and a Burmese unheated ruby inset as the eye. The head is further adorned with five pearls, while twelve pearls encircle the neck. Sculpted in bold relief with meticulous attention to detail, this jewel exemplifies both symbolic power and refined elegance, preserved in outstanding condition.
