Revolutionary War period, payable at the Treasury of Virginia. Engraved and printed paper note issued by the Continental Congress, Philadelphia, with ornamental border and printed text promising redemption in Spanish milled dollars, payable at the Treasury of Virginia, and referencing funding provisions enacted by Congress including the Act of July 14, 1780, with payment scheduled for 1784. Denomination prominently stated as “ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS,” with equivalent value “THIRTY POUNDS” printed in the margin in a rotated orientation. The issue date is not fully visible on the present example. A scarce high-denomination example of early American wartime currency. Heavily worn and fragmentary, with extensive creasing, losses at edges, thinning, staining, and partial splitting, printing and signatures partially legible. Unmounted. Approx. 4 1/2" x 3 3/8".
