Description:This is an excellent double-page bird's-eye view of the German town Koblenz (Cobolenz), on the banks of the Rhine. The view majestically shows the walled city with its huge cathedral and other church steeples. Across the river the Fortress Ehrenbreitstein on the hill commands a strategic position. The expected vineries are on both sides of the Rhine and the forests and lush farmland are in the foreground. This wonderfully detailed woodcut has a long flowing banner bearing the region's name, Isenburg, and the date 1549 running across the top. German text on verso. It is from Munster's Cosmographia... published by Petri.
