The Mother of the Artist - c.1915
Watercolor on paper
35,5 x 25,5 cm
Signed lower left
Provenance:
Odon Warland Collection, Brussels
By descent
Inne Gheeraert, coordinator-curator of the Permekemuseum, identifies this watercolor as part of a significant series produced by Constant Permeke in 1915. While convalescing from war injuries in England, Permeke was limited to working with paper (approx. 35 x 25 cm) and watercolors. Restricted mobility led him to capture his immediate domestic life, resulting in this intimate portrait of his mother.
