Description
A collection of five elegantly bound volumes, each exquisitely illustrated by Jean de Bosschère. This grouping includes: Gustave Flaubert's "First Temptation of St. Anthony" (London, 1924), Honoré de Balzac's "Droll Tales: Second Decade" (New York, 1929) and "Ten Droll Tales" (London, 1926), Lucius Apuleius' "The Golden Asse" (London, 1923), Ovid's "The Love Books" (London, 1925), and Oscar Wilde's "The Poems of Oscar Wilde" (New York, 1927). Each volume features a dark blue leather spine and boards, adorned with intricate gilt tooling in an Art Deco style, displaying a symmetrical floral and geometric pattern. The pages are cream-colored, with some volumes showing deckled edges, and the illustrations are distinctive of de Bosschère's unique style. These books represent a significant period of finely produced literary works from the early 20th century.
