C.P. Kimball & Company was a premier 19th-century American carriage manufacturer founded by Charles Porter Kimball in Chicago in 1877, known for high-quality, luxury vehicles. They produced diverse carriages, including Hansom cabs, carriages for US presidents, and popular sleighs, eventually transitioning to electric and custom car bodies before closing in 1929. Surviving carriages can be found in collections like The Henry Ford Museum and the Northwest Carriage Museum. Their work represents the height of luxury horse-drawn transportation in Chicago just before the automotive age. Known for producing high-quality six-passenger carts in the 1890s. When America was called upon to display its finest craftsmanship at the Paris Exposition of 1889, C. Kimball & Company obliged with a model of its "Portland Cutter" sleigh, a design by which the company had been known since its very earliest years.
