Juicy Salif, a citrus reamer designed by Philippe Starck in 1990, is considered an icon of industrial design, and has been displayed in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It has also received this distinction at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

This philosophy has made him one of the pioneers and central figures of the concept of democratic design.
The Juicy Salif lemon squeezer was designed by Philippe Starck for Alessi in the 1990s. It is made from cast aluminium with injection moulded polypropylene feet. The sculptural squeezer's shape is based on that of a squid with a streamlined body and three legs, and it has become a design icon. Critics have suggested the juicer emphasizes form over function as it does not perform well in practice, but Starck has publicly stated that his citrus reamer was "not meant to squeeze lemons" but "to start conversations".
