Description
An authentic turn-of-the-century French Limoges porcelain cabinet charger, hand painted in an Art Nouveau marine botanical motif. Flowing seaweed and coral forms are rendered in soft enamel tones over a blush ground and framed by a richly gilt scalloped rim. The underside bears the "France" export mark and JPL decorator's cipher, dating the piece to the Belle Époque period, circa 1895–1905.
The platter features early professional staple repairs to a historic crack, a period conservation method used prior to modern adhesives. The repair is stable and clearly visible on the reverse, and the piece displays beautifully as a wall or sideboard decorative object. A wonderful example of decorative arts porcelain with over 100 years of history and character.
Condition:
Alterations: Restored
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Antique condition consistent with age and display use. The platter has several historic hairline cracks that were professionally repaired in the early 20th century using traditional metal staple (rivet) stabilization, a period conservation method predating modern adhesives. The repair is secure and stable, with the staples visible on the reverse and a faint line visible from the front upon close inspection. No active movement is present.
Light surface wear to the gilt along the rim and minor age-related wear to the glaze typical of Limoges porcelain over 100 years old. No additional chips noted to the display edge. Presents beautifully as a decorative cabinet plate or wall display.
