About the Artist
Kim Fox Means was born in 1946 in the small Missouri river town of Yankton, South Dakota. When he was 15 years of age his family moved to Denver, Colorado. At East high School Kim began to nurture his interest in art. The curriculum included ceramics, commercial art, drawing & painting. At Colorado State University in Fort Collins he majored in art: painting, ceramics, & art education. He received his degree in 1970 & accepted a contract with the Denver Public Schools as a secondary art teacher where he taught 7 years resigning to devote full time to his own art endeavors. Working primarily in acrylic paints, Kim takes a contemporary approach to western subjects. He has a graphic, bold style which lends itself well to acrylics. He makes use of rich, earthen colors & concerns himself primarily with flow, contrast 7 design in his subjects rather than in authenticity of dress & wardrobe. Kim has produced 8 original Serigraph prints. his paintings & prints are in private corporate collections all over the world. his original paintings were found in Rawson Galleries in Jackson hole, Wyoming, as well as the big Horn Gallery in Cody, Wyoming. Driscol Gallery in Denver, Indian Paint Brush Gallery in Vail, Colorado, Estampe Gallery in Colorado Springs & Mears Gallery in Wichita, Kansas. He has participated in one man shows and group exhibits in Denver, Aspen, Santa Fe, Vail, Fort Collins and Cody. Kim lives in Denver with his wife Kathy and their 2 sons Seth & McCabe.
