Description
Abdallah or, The Four-Leaved Shamrock by Edouard Rene Lefebvre-Laboulaye, Translated by Mary L. Booth, published by James Pott & Co., New York. 1st Edition thus. 1910. Red leather cover with gilt title on front and on spine; top pages gilt edged. Book is tight and in excellent condition. Minor scratch on front cover, center going towards right edge; stain lower left front cover, darkenening on spine due to age, slight rubbing on corners and top of spine, some pencil marks on inside front cover upper right, small stain on bottom pages left side. Book is very clean inside, no other writing or marks. Inside back endpaper has a stamp towards bottom center of the page "UNBREAKABLE BACK" Patented Mar. 8, 1910. 251 pp., measures 4" x 6 1/4" x 5/8".
The author, Edouard Rene Lefebvre-Laboulaye, was French and as it states on the title page a "Membre de L'Institute De France". Laboulaye was one of only forty members at the time according to the "Introductory Essay" pgs. 3-8. He was a lawyer who wrote this book as a labor of love. The name Abdallah signifies the servant of God, according to the note on the bottom of the last page of the book.
The introductory essay states about this work that "it is not only good in itself but it will be, it is now, the cause of good in others". It sounds like an inspiring and wonderful, classic story.
Book is very rare, used but like new, and a definite collector's item!
