Description: Eastern Entrances to Torres Strait with the Tracks of H.M Colonial, Schooner Isabella and East India Company's Sloop Tigris in search of the survivors of the Charles Eaton 1836, compiled from the journals of Captain P.P. King R.N.'. A detailed chart of the eastern approaches to Torres Strait, showing reefs, channels and island groups, prepared in connection with the search for survivors of the wrecked barque Charles Eaton and compiled “from the journals” by Philip Parker King. The Charles Eaton, launched in 1833, was wrecked in 1834 under Captain Fowle. Most on board were killed on Mer (Murray) Island by Torres Strait Islanders, though two survivors were rescued in 1836 by Captain Lewis of the Isabella, who also recovered the remains of the dead for burial in Sydney. . Compiled from the journals by Captain Philip Parker King, R. N. Day & Haghe Lithrs. to the Queen. Published 1837. Antique lithographic map. Size 21 x 25 cm | 8.5 x 10.0 inches.
