Description
This chromolithography prints was edited by Fernand Nathan , a French editor which made its mark by creating in the last quarter of the 19Th century school books and supplies geared to this new market : in 1880 the free public school system was implemented in France .This plate was created to demonstrate which birds were "useful" , it come in a set of 5 plates , some are dated 1879 and 1878 with the name of the artist P. Robert .Those are Chromolithography , the artist prepared every color on a different stones to illustrate this bright lifelike rendition .In 1880 it was the only process available to print color beside engraving .Each picture is glued to the background which has spot of oxidation , the prints are good condition with minimal oxidation.Printed by l'Imprimeries Lemercier & Cie which was a French publishing house in Paris at 57, rue de Seine and 44, rue Vercingétorix. The firm operated between 1803 and 1901 .Chromolithography is a unique method for making multi-colour prints. This type of colour printing stemmed from the process of lithography, and includes all types of lithography that are printed in colour.The back is black .
Size H.21 x W.16 good antique condition , sold without frame ( the framed piece is just an example ) , some light foxing on part of the paper .
