Description
Charles-Francois Delamarche (1740-1817), the founder of the family firm was one of the most important French geographers and mapmakers of the second half of the eighteenth century. Successor to Nicolas Sanson (1600 – 1667), Robert de Vaugondy (1686 – 1766), and Rigobert Bonne (1727 – 1794), whose atlases he reprinted. His son Félix Delamarche (18th century – 1st half 19th century) continued his work. This globe was published by .In 1847 Delamarche transferred the publishing business to Auguste Grosselin, since then almost exclusively dedicated to the production of globes. Alexander died in 1884 so this globe is part of the last lineage of the famous French map maker of the 18th century , globe making was not just a luxury item but was becoming a household item . This globe was updated but still feature some the 19th information, edited by Berteaux ( successor of the Delamarche family ) which in turn ceded the firm to Mr. Barrere in 1892 , at a later date Thomas and Girard join the company.; The Indian territory are still mentioned in the US , Petrograd is dating this globe after 1914 , before 1920 since Russia is not yet URSS .; The bass is evocative of the transition period of the early 1900 from faux baroque to modern art nouveau.; Last picture is the street Notre Dames des Champs as it was in the early 1900 , Victor Hugo had a house there ( now destroyed ) .; globe H. 25 D. 13 inches ,Very fresh color.; I can be reach at the 310 994 6009 if you want more info , for shipping outside the US please contact me for pricing and condition
