Description
LA COMMEDIA E FINITA shows the artist's interest in theatre and dance and is a Hommage to the Film "Children of Paradise" ("Les Enfants du Paradis") in Marcel Camet's epic 1943/45 film. The famous French film was produced under war conditions during the Nazi Occupation in the 1940's. The figure is Watteau's "Pierrot" pulling back the curtains in the great climactic scene in Children of Paradise.
Ruth Weisberg works primarily in painting, drawing, printmaking and large-scale installations. She is the Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California since 1995, the longest tenured dean. Ruth Weisberg trained at the Chicago Art Institute and was the first contemporary artist to have a solo show at the Huntington Museum and at the Norton Simon Museum. She has had 80 solo exhibitions, 200 group exhibitions and is in 60 museums throughout the world.
