Fred Haise (born 1933) is a former NASA astronaut best known as the Lunar Module Pilot aboard Apollo 13, the ill-fated 1970 mission that suffered a catastrophic oxygen tank explosion en route to the Moon. Alongside astronauts Jim Lovell and Jack Swigert, Haise helped execute one of the most remarkable survival efforts in spaceflight history, safely returning the crew to Earth after days of critical systems failures and limited resources. Although Apollo 13 never landed on the Moon, the mission became an enduring symbol of ingenuity, teamwork, and crisis management within the American space program.
