Details:
Atlantis Space Shuttle flown thermal tile fragment housed in a 3.5” x 3.5” floating display case. This artifact is a piece of HRSI (High-temperature Reusable Surface Insulation) tile—part of the critical thermal protection system used during reentry. It originates from the Space Shuttle Atlantis and comes with full provenance, including two NASA documentation sheets and a certificate from noted spaceflight artifact specialist Sandy Clarkson of The Right Stuff, Inc.
Fine condition.
The HRSI tile was designed to shield the orbiter from the extreme temperatures experienced during reentry—up to 3,000°F. Atlantis was covered in more than 20,000 of these tiles across key structural areas, including landing gear doors, fuselage, and wing leading edges. The included fragment, removed due to surface damage, is officially documented with NASA scrap identification sheets showing serial numbers, rejection tags, tile description, and original technician annotations from 1997.
An extraordinary opportunity to own an authenticated flown component from one of NASA’s most storied orbiters, accompanied by rare internal NASA paperwork seldom offered to the public.
