Tennessee Williams (1911–1983) was one of the most important American playwrights of the 20th century, celebrated for works such as “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “The Glass Menagerie,” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” the latter two earning Pulitzer Prizes. Known for his deeply emotional characters and exploration of human vulnerability, Williams spent significant time in Key West, Florida—making checks such as this a tangible connection to his personal life and residency there during the later years of his career.
