Samuel A. Stritch autographed 7.5 x 10” black and white photograph depicting the Cardinal in clerical attire with episcopal cross and vestments. Stritch has inscribed the photograph vertically along the left margin to the recipient and signed in ink.
Fine condition with the exception of a trimmed left edge. Otherwise the photograph displays only light age wear.
Samuel Alphonsus Stritch (1887–1958) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as Archbishop of Chicago from 1940 to 1958 and was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 1946. One of the most prominent Catholic leaders in the United States during the mid-20th century, Stritch played a significant role in expanding Catholic education and charitable institutions throughout the Chicago Archdiocese before later serving in a senior administrative position within the Vatican shortly before his death.
