Caleb Cushing autographed 3.75 x 2” card.
Area of block toning, otherwise near fine condition.
Caleb Cushing (1800–1879) was a prominent American statesman, jurist, and diplomat who served as U.S. Attorney General under President Franklin Pierce from 1853 to 1857. A Harvard-educated lawyer and prolific intellectual, Cushing also represented the United States as Minister to China, where he negotiated the Treaty of Wanghia in 1844, the first formal diplomatic agreement between the two nations. His long career in public service and diplomacy places him among the most influential legal and political figures of the mid-19th century, making his autograph a desirable example for collectors of early American political history.
