Details:
Harry Truman-era autograph and correspondence collection featuring signed letters and from prominent political, military, and cabinet figures associated with the Truman administration and postwar United States leadership. Included are autographed letters and correspondence from Vice President Alben Barkley, Secretary of the Treasury John Snyder, Secretary of the Army Frank Pace, Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy, Major General Ralph E. Truman, General Paul W. Baade, and Secretary of the Navy Francis P. Matthews. Several pieces are typed on official government letterhead including Office of the Vice President, Secretary of the Army, Secretary of the Treasury, and White House military stationery.
The collection appears to have been assembled by Nicholas Georgeff of Gary, Indiana, with many letters thanking him for photographs, correspondence, or wartime reunion-related material. Also included are the original mailing envelopes with postal markings.
Fine to very good condition overall with expected age toning, folds, mailing wear, and handling wear.
The group represents a fascinating cross-section of Truman-era political and military leadership, spanning senior cabinet officials, White House military aides, and notable postwar commanders. William D. Leahy served as Chief of Staff to the Commander in Chief under Presidents Roosevelt and Truman, while Alben Barkley was Truman’s Vice President from 1949–1953. John Snyder served as Secretary of the Treasury throughout much of the Truman administration and was among Truman’s closest political allies. Frank Pace led the Department of the Army during the Korean War era, and Francis P. Matthews served as Secretary of the Navy from 1949–1951.
