Carlos P. Garcia (1896–1971) served as the eighth President of the Philippines from 1957 to 1961 following the death of President Ramon Magsaysay. A lawyer, poet, and statesman, Garcia is best remembered for his nationalist “Filipino First” economic policy, which emphasized promoting Filipino-owned businesses and reducing foreign economic dependence. His administration played an important role in shaping postwar Philippine political and economic policy during the Cold War era. Signed material from Garcia, particularly complete presentation groups with original correspondence and mailing envelopes, remains desirable among collectors of world leaders and political history.
