Pierre Mendès France autographed lot consisting of a signed 5 x 7” black-and-white portrait photograph, signed typed letter on Assemblée Nationale letterhead dated October 10, 1958, and both original mailing envelopes. The letter, written in French to American collector Donald Currier of Harvey, Illinois, thanks him for his correspondence and states that, according to his request, a signed photograph is enclosed. Both the photograph and letter are boldly signed by Mendès France in blue ink. Included are the original French National Assembly mailing envelope and the original Yugoslavian presidential office mailing envelope associated with the correspondence archive.

Pierre Mendès France (1907–1982) was one of the most important French political figures of the postwar era, serving as Prime Minister of France from 1954 to 1955 during the Fourth Republic. Widely respected for his intellect and reform-minded politics, he is best remembered for helping end the First Indochina War and for advocating modernization and decolonization policies during a turbulent period in French history. Mendès France remained a major voice in French political life for decades and was regarded internationally as one of the leading liberal statesmen of twentieth-century Europe.
