Scarce Sire/Warner Bros. Records Madonna “The Shep Pettibone Commotion Mix” original 1987 double-sided acetate disc. Side A label reads “Herb Powers Side A Madonna 1) Commotion 12" vocal 6:33 2) Commotion 12" dub mix 7:03 The Shep Pettibone Mix Sire/Warner 7/28/87” and Side B label reads “Herb Powers Side B Madonna 1) Commotion house version 9:30 2) Commotion 12" short 4:10 The Shep Pettibone Mix Sire/Warner 7/28/87.” Measuring approximately 12" x 12" and in fine condition. Acetate discs were produced in extremely limited numbers for internal mastering and label review, with very few surviving beyond their intended use. A rare studio acetate from Madonna featuring multiple extended Shep Pettibone mixes of “Commotion,” the high-energy dance track from the soundtrack to “Who’s That Girl.” Created during Madonna’s explosive late-1980s commercial peak, these mixes reflect the era in which she dominated both pop radio and club culture through increasingly sophisticated extended remixes and dance productions. Shep Pettibone’s collaborations with Madonna would soon help define some of the most influential dance-pop recordings of the late 1980s and early 1990s, making original studio acetates from this remix-driven period especially prized among serious pop and dance music collectors.
