This English ceramic small footed cake stand, also referred to as a comport or tazza, is produced by the manufacturer Copeland. The object features a deeply fluted and scalloped rim on both the upper circular dish and the spreading pedestal base. The interior is decorated with a vibrant Chinoiserie pattern, achieved through a combination of transfer-printed outlines and hand-painted overglaze enamels. The composition centers on a flowering tree bearing large orange peonies and various smaller blossoms in shades of blue and pink. A long-tailed exotic bird is depicted within the branches. To the lower left, a garden scene features two figures seated at a table. The scalloped rims of both the plate and the foot are accented with hand-applied gilding. The underside of the base bears an impressed circular mark for Copeland.
