Description

A large Spode earthenware pitcher decorated in the Blue Italian pattern. This vessel is constructed of earthenware featuring underglaze blue transfer-printed decoration. The form consists of a bulbous body, a flared and shaped rim, and a wide pouring spout. It is equipped with an ornate scroll handle featuring foliate relief details. The decoration depicts a classical landscape scene including ruins, pastoral figures, and livestock, which is framed by intricate floral and scrollwork borders at the rim and base. The underside features a printed black mark stating Spode, ENGLAND, ITALIAN, and SPODE DESIGN.
