Description
Outer Space, Meteoritic Iron, ca. 4.6 to 4.4 billion years old. These three iron meteorite cross sections offer a direct window into the ancient building blocks of our solar system. Each piece has been sliced and polished to reveal the iconic Widmanstatten pattern - interlocking crystalline bands of kamacite and taenite that form only through billions of years of slow cooling deep within a planetary core or large asteroid. The find sites of these specimens are unknown, lending them an air of mystery that does nothing to diminish their scientific and aesthetic appeal. Size: 1.75" W x 1.75" H (4.4 cm W x 4.4 cm H); total combined weights: 74.1 grams
Provenance: private West Covina, California, USA collection
