Hung Liu was a Chinese-American artist known for her powerful figurative works addressing history, memory, and identity. Her work is included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, the Whitney, and the Smithsonian. Light Source Study (2013) presents a luminous, symbolic composition combining two dancers with radiant color from the golden light source of the left side flora. The horizontal 10 by 20 inch mixed-media piece blends painterly texture with photographic references using layers of resin and paint for depth with a background of gold leaf.
