Description
Man Ray was an American visual artist who spent most of his career in Paris. He made significant contributions to the Dada and Surrealist movements, although his association with both was largely informal. Working across a wide range of media, he produced many important works, yet consistently regarded himself first and foremost as a painter. A pioneering figure in photography, Man Ray was also a celebrated fashion and portrait photographer. He is particularly renowned for his experimental photographic works, which he referred to as "rayographs," a term he coined to describe his cameraless images.
