Christina Muff handcrafts her clay sculptures using techniques such as slab building and coiling. Large surfaces of clay are slowly shaped into detailed sculptures with complex, naturalistic forms. It is a time-consuming process, as the sculptures—due to their size—require a long drying period before being fired, often multiple times, to achieve the desired texture and color. During the glazing process, she uses a variety of techniques in combination with natural materials such as sand, chalk, and locally dug clay from Denmark. The goal is to create textures and surfaces that resemble man-made objects reclaimed by nature.
Christina Muff, contemporary ceramicist (b. 1971), studied Design at the Margrethe School in Copenhagen in the 1990s and later at the TEKO Center in Herning.
