Description: This vibrant Tropical theme short-sleeved button-down shirt is a great example of Mid-century "Aloha" Hawaiian resort wear with an illustrative Eugene Savage Matson print and coconut buttons by Kamehameha. This large-size shirt is made from Rayon, and features tailor stitching with the classic camp collar design to the same spec as those made famous from the 1950s or early 1960s. The print is taken from the works of Eugene Francis Savage (1883–1978), a prominent American painter, muralist, and sculptor, widely celebrated for his Matson Murals (Hawaii). In 1938, the Matson Navigation Company commissioned him to paint murals of Hawaiian life for their luxury liners. Though the ships were converted for war use and never displayed them, the images became famous as menu covers and are now highly regarded Art Deco graphic design. Made by Kamehameha Garment Company, founded in 1936 by Herb Briner, was Hawaii’s first wholesale ready-to-wear manufacturer and is widely considered the gold standard for authentic Aloha shirts. Known for their "wearable art," these shirts are highly prized by collectors for their historical significance and exceptional craftsmanship.
