Description
This large rectangular vase was created by Francis Joseph Vontury - one of the twentieth century's master potters. Hand built of porcelain, it is hand-decorated with a blue and brown blossoms and leaves on a tan ground. Inscribed with the artist's signature on the bottom of both pieces.
Stands at 8.55" high x 5.5" wide x 3.5" deep.

Francis Joseph von Tury (1901 - 1992) was a fourth generation Hungarian potter. After emigrating to the US in 1929 he invented a unique "single firing" process for porcelain which is now the standard. Equally renowned for his talent as an artisan - his work initially gained fame at the 1935 and 1939 World Fairs. Throughout the balance of his lengthy career "Joe" maintained an atelier studio while consulting with porcelain manufacturers worldwide. Along with creating bodies of work for partners such as Georg Jensen. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian Institute.
