Cruikshank, family of English graphic artists. Isaac Leith Cruikshank born in Scotland went to London in the late 1790's and became a book illustrator, water-colorist, and a political caricaturist int he tradition of James Gillray and Thomas Rowlandson. His political prints enjoyed considerable popularity. Isaac had two sons, Issac Robert & George Cruikshank. "Their book Adventures of Tom, Jerry and Logic in their pursuits through life in and about London" became and instant and unprecedented success. George Cruikshank took on many other illustration projects for the next decade or so, illustrating Grimm's Fairy Tales and using his artistic platform to voice his oppostion to the Industrial Revolution. By 1835, George Cruikshank was considered to be the most important graphic artist working in England. Cruikshank illustrated for Charles Dickens' "Sketches by Boz". He also illustrated Charles Dickens, "Oliver Twist" among other works.
