Vintage Tessuto Plate by Tyra Lundgren for Venini, Murano

A vintage lattimo mezza filigrana glass plate made of transparent glass decorated with fine white canes. Designed by Tyra Lundgren in 1938, manufactured by Venini, Venice. It features the tree line acid etched mark "venini murano ITALIA" on the base. A rare example of Lundgren's iconic designs for Venini. Model no. 2693.

Tyra Lundgren (1897 – 1979) was a Swedish painter, ceramist, glass and textile designer. In 1936, she met the glassmaker Paolo Venini at the Triennale di Milano. He invited her to Murano and she became the first woman to design glass for Venini. Her bird, fish and snake sculptures belong to the most seeked Venini glasses. In 1938 and 1948 her designs for Venini were exhibited at the Venice Biennale. Lundgren also worked as glassware designer at Moser, Karlsbad, Riihimäki, Finnland and Kosta, Sweden. In 1950, she was awarded the Swedish royal medal Litteris et Artibus in recognition of her artistic career.
