Description
Paracas. South coast, ca. 500 - 200 BCE. Large polychrome decorated pottery saucer shape vessel, having a bridge type handle connected to a tapered rear spout and terminating at the front with a simple stylized bird head. Incised and polychrome resin painted decoration, depicting two stylized standing profile jaguars, on the opposing top sides with incised linear borders. Lower wide band of incised and painted geometric elements. Lower body decorated with a wide band incised and painted with an elaborate stepped, checkered and geometric patterns. Very rare and impressive in this large size.. 8”H x 8.75”W (20.3 x 22.2cm).
