From Sheafer + King:
Robert Natkin was an American abstract painter and printmaker. Natkin was born in Chicago in 1930 and grew up in relative poverty. In spite of a lack of support for his art career from his family, he graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1952. Shortly after, he married a fellow painter, Judith Dolnick, and opened the short-lived Wells Street Gallery. Natkin worked within different artistic movements including Color Field and Abstract Expressionism. In 1960, he was included in the "Young America" exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Natkin taught at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The artists work is included in esteemed collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
