Description
This collectible action musical, titled The Flying Circus, was produced by Enesco Imports Corp. in 1987 as the second issue of four in the Travels of Yesteryear series. The piece is designed by M. Gilmore Designs, Inc. and is constructed from hand-painted molded resin and plastic components mounted on a circular wooden-finish base. A red and yellow biplane is suspended by a metal rod and features C.B. Tuttle script on the fuselage and tail registration number N2590J. The aircraft is manned by a pilot and includes three wing-walking daredevil figures in various acrobatic poses. The rotating base depicts a rural farm scene, including a red barn, a white silo, a windmill, a vintage black coupe, and cows in a pasture. The barn features printed signs for C.B. Tuttle's Flying Circus and Sight Seeing Airplane Rides and High-Flying Daredevils. The piece contains a wind-up musical mechanism operated by a metal key on the base, which plays the tune Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. This item is part of a limited edition of 10,000 sequentially numbered pieces worldwide. The lot includes the original pictorial cardboard box and a Certificate of Authenticity with a facsimile signature of Eugene Freedman.
