Description
A jacquard knit commemorative textile for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 66. The piece is constructed on a navy blue ground with a large central seal designed in the form of a pressure gauge. The gauge face is white with red numerical markings ranging from 0 to 600 and a central black needle. Surrounding the gauge is circular text in red and white reading INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OPERATING ENGINEERS and ORGANIZED DEC. 7, 1896. The Latin motto LABOR OMNIA VINCIT is knit below the gauge. The bottom of the textile features large white block letters with red borders reading LOCAL 66. A small GCIU union bug, representing the Graphic Communications International Union, is visible in the center of the gauge face. The reverse side shows the mirrored, negative-image pattern characteristic of jacquard knit construction.
