This jade object features a flat, trapezoidal tablet form, closely resembling an archaic jade ritual axe (yue). The piece is designed with a broader upper edge that gently tapers toward a narrower base, with smoothly carved, slightly incurved vertical sides. The surface is framed by a finely incised border, enclosing a central decorative field symmetrically carved with an intricate and rigorous pattern of geometric cloud scrolls, key-fret spirals, or stylized animal masks. Crafted from jade, the surface exhibits extensive and heavy mottled coloration resulting from long-term natural weathering and mineral absorption.
