Description: Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese art of "fish rubbing" or printing fish, where "gyo" means fish and "taku" means impression. This art form originated in the early 1800s as a method for Japanese fishermen to record their catches, similar to how modern anglers might take a photograph. Barbara Cross, an artist in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is also known for her gyotaku fish prints, alongside her children's book illustrations.
