Description
Fine Mongolian applique Thangka. Probably mid-20th century made with a dozen different types of much older antique silk. Each color of silk has a different pattern and weave. A striking example of its type. Very similar to 4491. These were available on the market in the 1990's when I got this item. Now they are almost all new, made with new silk, as all of the old silk they used to use was all gone a decade ago. This one can use a good cleaning and does have one burn hole (not in the actual image, but in the framing cloth). Most dealers would sell this as 19th century, and while made for worship under Soviet rule, Very hard to find now. Inner image measures 13.5 by 18.75 inches, the outer frame is 33 by 26.25 inches.
