Two Apache Baskets

Description

Offered here for your consideration are two Apache baskets. First is a Burden basket, which is cone shaped with dark geometric designs and leather fringe with jingle cones. The second basket is a coiled basket is the shape of a bowl and the bottom features a squash blossom design with a dark center circle. The blossom is surrounded by a checked zig zag pattern forming a sun like resemblance. *Note rim damage is present on this one, please see pictures for details. Burden baskets, usually made with willow or cottonwood, were used to carry food, firewood and personal items. The Apache people were known as superior basket makers after learning new techniques from the Yavapai during the late 1800s which they quickly adopted and adapted. These baskets are highly sought after and getting harder to find. Consider these for your collection now!

MAKER: Unknown basket weavers.
APPROX AGE: Antique to Vintage.
SIZE: The burden basket measures 4 1/2 inches deep x 7 1/4 inches across at the rim opening & the fringe measures 4 to 9 inches long. the bowl shape basket measures 10 inches across x 2 3/4 inches tall.
CONDITION: Fair to average for their age with wear and fading expected. Some rim damage is present, Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description and are hereby incorporated into the description, specifically with regards to condition.
HANDLING: There will be a $10 handling / packaging fee for shipping this lot.
