Venini Art Glass Vase 'Batutto' by Tobia Scarpa, Murano 1960
A vintage art glass vase from the 'Batutti' series. Made of light green glass with a solid cylindrical base, the entire surface is matt grinded. Designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1960 and manufactured by Venini Murano Venice. Venini model number 8513. Signed with a round, acid-etched signature 'venini murano italia' on the base (barely visible).
Tobia Scarpa (*1935) is an Italian designer and architect. Born in Venice, Italy, Scarpa studied architecture at the Università Iuav di Venezia, where he graduated in 1957. After graduating, he began working with his wife Afra Scarpa, with whom he realized numerous important designs. With her, he also turned to the world of glass and joined VENINI in 1958. They developed iconic designs for Venini, such as the "Occhi" and "Battuti" series. Scarpa designed for many companies, including B&B, Flos, Benetton and Fabbian. His works are represented in the collections of numerous museums, including the MoMA in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Scarpa currently lives and works in Venice, Italy.
