Philippines, Mindanao, 19th to early 20th century.

Carved wooden comb with openwork crest, surmounted by three projecting finials and ornamented with suspended strands of glass beads in white, yellow, black, and red. The arched form and lively beadwork give the piece a strong decorative character, while the hand-carved body retains a pleasing folk quality throughout. An attractive example of personal adornment from the southern Philippines. 17in L by 4.5inW
