Democratic Republic of the Congo (Katanga Region)20th Century

A set of three cast copper cross forms, presented on later custom stands. Each is modeled after traditional Katanga cross currency types historically used in Central Africa as a medium of exchange and store of value. The surfaces display a mottled green and brown patina consistent with oxidation, with slight variations in form and casting across the group. While smaller in scale than historic examples, the present set reflects the characteristic flared-arm silhouette associated with these well-known currency forms.Mounted for display. A decorative and representative grouping, illustrating a recognizable form of traditional Central African currency.
