Description
Africa, Neolithic Period or later. African Neolithic Polished Stone Axe Head / Celt
A finely shaped polished stone axe head or celt, carved from a dense, light-colored hardstone with a smooth cream-to-buff surface and scattered natural mineral inclusions. The form is elegantly elongated, with a rounded butt end tapering gradually toward a narrowed cutting edge or working tip. The surface shows careful smoothing and shaping throughout, suggesting use as a hafted implement, ceremonial object, or prestige tool.
The stone retains an attractive aged surface with subtle variation in tone, minor abrasions, and light encrustation consistent with age and handling. A handsome example of early stone tool workmanship, notable for its balanced form, tactile polish, and substantial weight.
Dimensions: 8 1/4 in. L Weight: 857 g
Ex-Tennessee Estate. Family collection of an esteemed diplomat and ambassador amassed during travel and work circa 1960-1990s in the medical field providing charitable advanced medical care throughout the African continent and internationally.
