Description

Yoruba people, Nigeria, 20th century. A carved wood seated female maternity figure, shown enthroned and holding twin children across her lap. The figure is depicted with rounded facial features, prominent coiffure with multiple ridged projections, elongated neck, and carefully modeled torso. She is seated upon an elaborate tiered throne or stool, supported by carved animal figures, including leopard-form mounts and a coiled serpent motif beneath the seat.

Height 27", weight 17 lb. 5.6 oz (approximately 7.85 kg)
