Description: [Background to the French & Indian War, including reports of early military expeditions commanded by a 21 year old Major George Washington]. “Some Account of the Encroachments Made by the French on the British Settlements in America”, an article published at the outset of the French and Indian War in the Gentleman's Magazine. It details the background and causes of the conflict, including a military expedition undertaken in October 1753 by a 21-year-old Major George Washington. Dispatched to the banks of the Ohio River to confront a French detachment, Washington’s mission culminated in a skirmish “in which all the French were either killed or taken prisoners, except three, who were later intercepted and scalped by some Indians.” by Anonymous. Published July 1754. Four antique copperplate pages, on three sheets. Size 20 x 13 cm | 8.0 x 5.0 inches. Condition: Good; suitable for framing.
