The arms and rail are elegantly formed in one continuous curve, terminating with hand rests swept outward. The front rail of the seat is decorated with a pair of hornless dragons. Bronze protective mounts encase the joints. These folding chairs were developed as a result of the addition of a curved rest to the high folding stools of the Southern and Northern dynasties period, their basic structure already established in the Song Dynasty.
