This originally hand-colored engraving is from Charles L. Lemaire's "Histoire naturelle des oiseaux exotiques". This from the first edition of the work and published in Paris by Pauquet and Debure in 1836.
The steel engravings were done by Hippolyte and Polydore Pauquet, renowned 19th century French illustrators and brothers. The original hand-coloring is vibrant and skillful. The work included species from Australia and Oceania.
