Description
This striking loom beaded sash attributed to the Menominee tribe of Wisconsin dates to approximately 1890. It exemplifies the exquisite craftsmanship and cultural artistry of the era. The sash features a sophisticated geometric design rendered in a palette of seed beads in colors blue white red black and gold. One half is a series of stripes of all the colors and the other half is a zigzag tri-color design with a black background. Typical of sashes from this. The piece is finished with multiple strands of tightly braided red yarn at both sides which would have served as ties. The condition of the sash is fairly stable with some portions of the beads exhibiting loss. The red braided yarn ties have suffered significant loss, commensurate with age and use. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful piece of Menominee cultural heritage from the 19th century. Dimensions: 3.5” wide x 59”. See photos.
